    Tips and Considerations

The best onions to use for onion rings are either sweet onions or yellow onions. White onions are a little bit too strong for most people when it comes to onion rings.

Try adding a few tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese to the breadcrumbs for a more flavorful breading. You can also add a little pepper and other spices if desired. Garlic powder and parmesan go well together.

You can spray the onion rings with a little bit of cooking spray before putting them in the air fryer to achieve a taste that is closer to the deep-fried original.

If you're looking for a lower-calorie version, you can skip the flour batter. Just dip each onion ring into an egg white and then into the breadcrumbs. This will result in onion rings that are even healthier, though the taste might be a bit different.

This air fryer onion rings recipe works best when making a smaller serving size. To make onion rings for a larger group, you'll need to make them in shifts. The cook time is pretty short, though, so this shouldn't slow you down too much.

The exact cooking time will vary depending on how thick your slices are and how well done you like your onion rings.

If you prefer them pretty well-browned and crispy, expect it to take a full 10 minutes. If you don't want them to be extremely crispy, they may need only 7 minutes or so.

Just be sure to check on the rings after five minutes.
