Prep time 5 minutes, plus an optional marinating time of 2 hours or overnight
    Cook time 25 minutes
    Serves up to 4 people

    What you'll need

    • Airfryer
    • 1 kg chicken wings
    • 120 ml (½ cup) hot sauce/buffalo wings sauce
    • 6 Tablespoons melted butter - optional
    • 1-2 Tablespoons brown sugar - optional
    • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce - optional

How to cook buffalo wings in an air fryer

Prep the wings by cutting off the tips and separating the drumettes from the wingettes.

[toggle title="Step 2" type="open"]If you're keeping things simple and just using the hot sauce, you can skip this step.

Mix up your sauce by combining the hot sauce, melted butter, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.

The butter will make the wings nice and decadent while the brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce will add some depth to the flavour.

You can play around with how much of these extra ingredients you add to the hot sauce. Taste test until you get the right flavour. You can also try adding some spices like cayenne pepper and garlic powder for that extra kick.

[toggle title="Step 3" type="open"]Pour half of the sauce over the wings and stir to make sure the wings are well-covered. For especially flavorful and tender wings, let this marinate in the refrigerator at least a few hours or even overnight - this will allow more of the sauce to be absorbed.

[toggle title="Step 4" type="open"]Put the wings into the air fryer basket, set the temperature to 190°C/380°F and cook the wings for 20 minutes.

[toggle title="Step 5" type="open"]After 20 minutes, remove the fry basket and give it a good shake to ensure even cooking, you can also use tongs to turn the wings instead of shaking.

[toggle title="Step 6" type="open"]Turn the temperature up to 200°C/400°F and cook the wings for another 5 minutes.

    Tips and considerations

This Air Fryer Buffalo wings recipe keeps things simple by using a prepared sauce with a few optional add-ins, but you can also make your wing sauce from scratch if you prefer.

This gives you more control over the flavour. If you like your wings extra hot, use more hot sauce and less butter. The cook time will be the same even if you make more or fewer wings, though the amount of sauce you will need will vary.
